Keeping the Upholstery Smelling Fresh
It is normal for the upholstery to get dirty and smelly since it is used. There are several reasons they smell. The good thing is, you can do something to remove the smell from the fabric. This does not involve using chemical-based, store-bought sprays. Here are some tips to keep your upholstered furniture smelling fresh all the time.
Make your own fabric refresher solution
We all know that the refresher sprays that are found in the stores can make the fabric of the upholstered furniture smell good again. However, if used frequently, it can damage the fabric. Since they are chemical-based, it is not good for people with lung problems as well. You can make your own solution by mixing a cup of vinegar, a cup of water, half teaspoon of essential oils (depending on what scent you like). Put all these ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. See to it that everything is well blended so you will spray the right mixture to the surface. You can use this mixture not only to refresh the fabric but to refresh the air inside your house as well.
Pour Baking Soda on Upholstered Furniture
Make sure that you are only pouring the baking soda on the fabric. Pour plenty of baking soda on the surface, make sure the entire surface is fully covered. Leave the baking soda for 30 minutes so it can do its magic. The baking soda will absorb the smell while it is sitting. After 30 minutes, remove the baking soda by vacuuming it. Do not forget those nooks and crannies.
Keep the upholstery clean
Dirt is the number one reason the fabric gets smelly. If the furniture is vacuumed regularly, you do not have to worry about having a smelly fabric all the time. Aside from looking clean, it will smell clean as well. If the fabric gets wet, dry it up right away. If the liquid seeps through, it will be harder to remove it.
